A good original George III silvered brass dial clock with verge escapement, dated c.1790.
The 14-inch dial is well engraved with JOHN FIELD, LONDON, with Roman hour numerals within, and Arabic minutes outside the minute track. The dial surround is narrow, with a recess to seat the cast brass bezel. The concave-section bezel is hinged to the right, and has a lock on the left hand side.
The mahogany case has a pegged salt box back with a curved access door to the base, the salt box back having a projection at the top for hanging.
8-day fusee timepiece movement, the tapered plates with bulbous knopped pillars. It has a verge escapement, with pendulum retaining clip on the back of the movement.
Original blued steel hands.
