A super example of a striking and repeating carriage clock by one of the best 19th century French clockmakers.
The gilded gorge style case has been recently regilded, presented as the maker intended. Most rarely, the clock retains its original morocco leather carrying case, numbered in gilt on the base, and the original numbered key.
The white enamel dial is perfect, signed for the original retailer, T. MARTIN & CO., 225 Regent Street, LONDON AND PARIS, Fabrique de Paris.
The 8-day gong-striking movement with silvered platform escapement is signed on the backplate with Drocourt’s trademark and with the serial number 24688.
The clock is sold overhauled, with a three year guarantee.
- Height: 6 inches (with the handle up).
Drocourt were makers of great repute, being among the earliest of mass-producing carriage clocks and maintaining their high standards throughout. They made for many high-end retailers – Leroy, Charles Frodsham amongst them.
