This is a really stylish floor standing clock dating from c.1900, very much typical of the Arts and Crafts movement. Arts & Crafts longcase clocks do crop up every now and then, but they are a rare find.
Its geometric oak case is simply but sturdily constructed, the hammered black metal nail-heads being a feature of the design. The oak has good figuring, especially noticeable on the dial.
The dial itself has applied gilt metal Arabic numerals, and gilt counter-balanced hands.
Despite the open design, the movement is well-protected against dust and inquisitive hands, being encased in a neat black wooden box structure, behind shaped oak side screens. It is a mechanical 8-day duration American movement, striking the hours and the passing of the half-hour on a coiled gong.
