Very large striking Wall Clock, American

£1950
image_pdfimage_print

A very large dial antique calendar clock by the American Clock Co.  in an imposing ebonised wooden case measuring 27 inches in diameter.

The 17-inch cream painted metal dial is completely original, having black Arabic numerals within a minute track, and the date outside the track.

The clock has matching black painted hour and minute hands, and a contrasting brass centre date hand for clarity.

The moulded dial surround is fitted with flat glass to the dial, and is hinged at 12 o’clock. It is lifted for winding and for access to the pendulum.

The classic American eight-day movement with anchor escapement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong.

  • 68cm diameter

The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years. The price includes delivery within the UK mainland.

According to American Clocks and Clockmakers, by Robert W. and Harriet Swedberg, the American Clock Company was established in 1849 in New York City as a large depository to sell clocks made by various companies. The company issued catalogues of wares.
