Walnut Barograph on a Bespoke Bracket

Antique-barograph

This is a good walnut antique barograph on a bespoke bracket of a type that we have not seen before.

The bracket has a sliding drawer so that last week’s comparative recordings can be displayed. This is of course of particular relevance at the start of the week when a new paper is inserted. Otherwise there is no comparison to know whether the air pressure is rising or falling.

The walnut barograph case has a drawer for the unspent papers. It is fitted with heavy beveled glasses to the five sides.

The polished and lacquered brass barograph movement has an 8-stack of aneroid chambers. It is signed R. BAILEY, 14 BENNETTS HILL, BIRMINGHAM.

The recording drum houses an eight-day clock movement, currently working but to be overhauled within our workshops.

R. Bailey is recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS AND RETAILERS 1660-1900 as working from 14 & 15 Bennetts Hill, Birmingham circa 1865-85.

The price includes delivery within the mainland UK, and a 3-year guarantee.
