£SOLD
image_pdfimage_print

A super library desk clock, dating from c.1890-1900, made in France (Paris) for the German market.

The small silver-plated brass case is delightful – the drum movement is perched on two books, all mounted on a plinth with four finials to match the larger finial on the top of the drum. the drum sides are ringed, with silver-plated stars at either side. The overall height of the clock is only 7 inches, the height of a carriage clock.  The case is lacquered to prevent tarnishing of the silver.

The 3½-inch enamel dial has a time dial with classic Art Nouveau styled Arabic numerals within a minute track, and below are three subsidiary calendar dials, for day, date and month.

The overhauled timepiece movement has the original lever platform escapement. The backplate carries the trademark for Z & CO. PARIS, and is numbered 9707.

Guaranteed for 3 years.
