A fine example of a grande sonnerie carriage clock by Henri Jacot, numbered 11170, dated c.1895.
This clock exhibits all of the quality attributes that elevated Henri Jacot’s name among the ranks of the carriage clock manufacturers.
The gorge case with pinched corners is presented is mint condition, having been newly gilded. It has bevelled glasses to all sides and top with no chips, and a large top glass to view the platform.
The eight day movement, about to be overhauled in our workshops, is gong striking on the hour with a repeat function. The base has a selection lever for Silent / Full Striking (grande sonnerie) / Quarters (petite sonnerie).
With the Grande Sonnerie option you have the quarter, half and three-quarter hour ting-tang striking on two gongs following the hour strike.
The petite sonnerie option gives a ting-tang strike on the quarters, with the hour (on one gong) only at the full hour.
The movement retains its original bi-metallic jewelled lever escapement of exceptional quality with Breguet overcoil, and with a steel bridge to protect the index.
The backplate bears Henri Jacot’s trademark of a parrot on a perch with the initials H.J. either side, and is stamped with the serial number 11170. The base of the case carries the same serial number.
The inside of the frontplate is stamped with an oval exposition award Paris (gold medal) in 1889.
The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals within the minute track, and Arabic minutes without. The back of the dial is hand-written with the clock’s serial number, 11170.
The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
