Gilt Repeating Carriage Clock with Barley Twist Columns

£SOLD
image_pdfimage_print

A very decorative French striking carriage clock dating from the late 19th century, restored and all in perfect condition.

The gilded brass case stands at 21cm with the handle up, somewhat larger than average. It has a well crafted design with many interesting details – dentil cornicing around the base and top, barley twist columns to the four corners, topped with Corinthian capitals, the handle to match. It has a deep base, the cornices of which are curved rather than angular, giving the clock a more elegant look.

The white enamel dial is in perfect original condition. It has Roman hour numerals, and Arabic five-minute numerals .

Original matching blued steel moon hands.

The eight-day movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong, and has a repeat function – depressing the button on top will repeat the last hour struck. It retains its original silvered club-tooth lever platform escapement.
