French Empire porcelain clock with Egyptian decoration

Dating from c.1830, this French porcelain striking mantle clock is also visually striking.

The highly detailed decoration depicts ancient Egyptian sarcophagi and iconography of Egyptian deities on all four sides. The front has the signs of the Zodiac surrounding the silvered dial. The top is a flat plain black glaze. The top and base are bordered with a band of gilt, the whole being in spectacularly good condition.

The French 8-day movement has a silk suspension to the fine pendulum, and an outside countwheel count mechanism for the strike-side. It strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a bell – watch the video to hear the strike.

It is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
