A superior quality English black marble clock in an architectural styling to resemble chisel-finished crenelated castle walls, standing just 12 inches tall. The proportions of this clock are fantastic, and the quality of the carving exceptional.
The 3½ inch gilt dial has a well-engraved centre and engine-turned bezel to the beveled edge glass door. It is signed for Frodsham and Baker, Grace Church street, London.
This clock has its original matching fine steel moon hands and a finely made miniaturised fusee timepiece 8-day movement. It has a locking pendulum for transportation.
The Frodsham family were elite makers of their day. George Edward Frodsham & Baker were in business together at 31 Gracechurch Street, London from 1854 to 1863 and were chronometer makers to the Admiralty.
