A highly decorative chiming longcase clock , dating from c.1940, made by the reputable English company of clockmakers, Elliott.
The case stands just 64 inches high, and is decorated on three sides with green Chinese lacquer, and painted in golds, red and black to depict rural scenes with figures engaged in recreational activities.
The 6¾ inch silvered dial with discreet brass spandrels is signed for Elliott, and also for the retailer Vierlinger SA, Lima, and has a narrow silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals for hours and Arabic minutes. There is a selection slot at 3 o’clock for chime/silent.
Original blued steel hands.
The eight day movement quarter chimes the Westminster melody on a series of four gongs. Elliott made superior quality clock movements, and this one is no exception. The backplate of the movement is stamped with the serial number 011578.
