A finely engraved oval carriage clock by Drocourt of Paris, one of the leading names in carriage clock makers of the 1870s.
The case has well-defined engraving and has been regilded to restore it to its former glory. All glasses are beveled and perfect.
The eight-day movement has the original silvered platform lever escapement and strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong. The movement backplate is stamped with the Drocourt’s trademark, a ‘D’ & a ‘C’ either side of a carriage click. It also bears the serial number 12884 on the back-plate, the front-plate and dial-plate. The wheel work all has straight crossings. The strike repeats on depressing a button on the top of the case.
The white enamel dial is set behind a finely engraved gilded mask. The enamel remains in perfect original condition. It has black Roman hour numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals, and is signed for the retailer, AIRD & THOMSON, PARIS. Below the main dial is an alarm dial, also in perfect condition.
