Beha Quarter Striking Cuckoo and Quail Clock

£SOLD
image_pdfimage_print

A fine and rare example of a walnut cuckoo and quail wall clock by the most famous of all Black Forest makers, Beha.

The all original wooden framed movement has a combination of striking from the cuckoo, the quail and the coiled gong affixed to the back. The bellows are original but recovered in leather. The cuckoo and quail are original and have not been repainted.

The old-German form of case was carved by Heer Brothers, and is identical to that on page 6 of Beha Uhren.

Information from Willhelm Schneider, author of Beha Uhren declares that the finely fretted bone hands now in situ are not original, as bone hands were not made until later.

The well-carved pendulum is partially hidden behind the fretted base, and the clock benefits form 3 matching weights.

To be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.

Price includes delivery within mainland UK.
