Arts and Crafts movement Hammered Brass clock

An iconic Arts and Crafts hammered copper and brass striking mantel clock, dating from c.1910.

The bi-metallic case offers subtle colour distinction between the riveted brass seams and the hammered copper panels.  The clock dial has Aesthetic-style Arabic numerals in relief, and with bold pierced steel hands, painted black. The domed top is typical for the Arts and Crafts movement design.

The German 8-day clock movement  is by HAC, the Hamburg American Clock Company. In Germany, the Jugendstihl design movement was heavily influenced by the British Crafts movement which continued under c.1914.

The movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a soft mellow gong. The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
