Antique Marquetry Table Clock

Marquetry-table-clock

A unique large and impressive 19th century German table clock. This was possibly an exhibition piece, an example of the finest cabinet work presumably made as an opportunity for the (sadly anonymous) case-maker to display their very high level of skill.

The lancet arches of the walnut tower are raised on eight barley twist columns, over a circular stepped plinth with geometric marquetry inlay. The beautifully executed inlay continues to all sides – around the dial and circular back door, and with circular patterns flanking the dial.

Engraved silvered dial with black steel spade hands.

The 8-day ting tang striking movement by Winterhalder & Hofmeier strikes the quarters on two gongs. It has been overhauled and is guaranteed for 3 years.

Overall height 82cm.

This makes a fine centrepiece to a room.
