Schmid-Schlenker Modernist table clock, c. 1970, West German, the gilt cast metal case of abstract design. The garnet-coloured dial has satellite smoke-grey stones set into the case.
The single train 8-day movement bears the stamp FABRIK SSS MARKE. It strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a small bell.
The 3-inch dial is red lacquer with gilt dagger numerals, and hands. The dial is signed Schmid 8 day GERMANY.
The company W. & A. Schmid-Schlenker was founded in 1934 by the brothers Albert Schmid and Walter Schmid in the town of Schwenningen am Neckar with the production of clocks. By the late 1950s they had 250 employees, but went out of business in the 1990s.
