Mid-late C19th painted French Mantel Clock

A very pretty French striking mantel clock in a green case, painted with floral decoration, and with ormolu mounts, the dial signed Maison Wurtel, 38 et 40 Passage Vivienne, Paris.

The founder of the firm, Ferdinand Wurtel was known to be working in the 1840s-50s. This clock will date from the 1860-80s.

The 3½" gilt dial has enamel cartouches, with blue Roman numerals, and an enamel courtouche signed for the maker, with steel lancet style hands. There is a regulation arbor above the number XII. The bezel is decorated with tulip relief, and fitted with beveled convex glass.

The eight day movement has outside countwheel strike, striking the hours and the passing of the half hours on a bell. It is signed for the maker and numbered 2452, as is the pendulum.

The clock is priced to include a full overhaul, yet to be done, and will then be guaranteed for 3 years.
