French early C19th ormolu striking mantel clock, by Lepaute a Paris, in lovely condition, depicting Psyche holding a flower out to the bird.
A very elegant case housing the eight- day drum movement, with count-wheel strike on a bell.
The 3" Roman dial has an engine-turned centre, blued steel moon hands and black painted numerals and minute division markers. It is surrounded by a foliate bezel and mounted in a pediment decorated with feeding butterflies. Psyche is depicted with butterfly wings, dressed in a fine veil.
Both are mounted on a plain rectangular plinth, decorated simply with a floral garland, above a highly decorative skirt and feet.
