1850s Mahogany Marine Barometer on Gimbals

A fine marine barometer by Arthur Ethelbert BYRNE, of 7½ Fountain Court, Strand.

The mercury tube is within a mahogany case, mounted with mercury thermometer over a polished and lacquered brass cistern cover, and in brass gimbals.

The angled ivory register plates are signed for the maker, and have a single vernier operated by an ivory knob.

The thermometer has a scale graded in degrees Fahrenheit and Reaumur.

AE Byrne was known to be working at this address between 1853 and 1858.
